HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Monday, January 17, 2011

How brilliant is it to face the possibilities and promises of a new year! We have survived 2010, which was a fast and furious year. I never planned to hit the empty nest, and suddenly, there it was! The baby has gone off to college, and honestly, his parents are at a bit of a loss.

So we cleaned the house.

Really. We took 5 years of junk out of the garage. Before, only the riding lawn mower could get in there. Now, with everything put in its proper place, and half a block of stuff thrown out (wish you could see the pictures!), we can now park an SUV, a compact sedan and the riding lawn mower in there! Brilliant! Then we went after the closets in our rooms. So many needy people have been clothed by two people who decided that all of the "optimistic" clothes had to go. ;) We moved on to my desk (hours of work!) and then the linen closet. Now on to the kitchen cabinets!

The symbolism of our work has not been lost on us. We started these projects when the youngest left for school because it seemed time to get ourselves reorganized. Our lives had changed drastically, and permanently. When a child has to take care of him or herself for a time, no matter how short, they change and the family changes with them. We have continued the effort because we want to rid our lives of the extra baggage of old memories, dead dreams, wasted hours, and fruitless journeys. A new decade and a new lifestyle seem to go hand in hand with a cleanup.

What are your plans for the new year? Not resolutions; that word almost has 'failure' written all over it. What changes are you planning to make to improve your life? Of course I want to help as your Avon representative with the products and services that will change your outlook on yourself and your future. But YOU have to know what you want!

Is it time to change your mascara?

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Did you know you need to change your mascara every 3 months? Think about it - your eyelashes exist to catch junk that might make it's way into your eyes. Germs, dust, specks of dirt, etc. The towel that you pat (not rub!) your face dry with has dust, germs and maybe detergent on it. You may take a shower after washing your face and brushing your teeth, and water droplets form on your lashes.

You blink at least a few times before you put on your makeup. If your lashes are doing their job, they are dirty before you put the mascara on. And that dirt goes into your mascara. It does accumulate after a while, wouldn't you think?

BTW, if you are sick with a virus and still putting on makeup and creating killer eyes while you are ill, toss that mascara and clean your lipstick brush with a little rubbing alcohol when you get well. Don't soak the brush; put a little rubbing alcohol on a face towel and wipe the brush down. I suggest you wash your comb and brush also.

While you are ill, if you are wearing makeup, don't put that lipstick or gloss on directly from the container. Instead, use a lipstick brush (of course we sell brushes!) and clean it daily.

Celebrating the Holidays Wisely!!!!

Wednesday, December 08, 2010

I love this time of the year! Okay, I really don't like the cold, but I do love the holidays. If we could have snow without cold, this would work. :)

Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's Eve are special to me. I'm not Jewish, but the celebration of God's provision is always in order. Hearing the story of
חנוכה concerning the restoration of the Temple and the oil that burned for 8 days, showing God's presence in their struggle, is heartening and inspiring. No matter what the situation or how inconsistent you may be, once He has promised, He never leaves you alone!

Though the Christmas celebration is extra-Biblical, and the timing is based on a pagan ritual, the fact that Christ was born means that He made Himself available to die for the sins of mankind - past, present and future. That's worth celebrating! I personally don't celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday anymore, but as a time commemorate His sacrifice and to share a special time with our family. It is not often that we all get together - Thanksgiving and Christmas are about it. Since my mother-in-law's death, the extended family has splintered, and that actually makes the day more important. I may not see these people again for another year!

Finally, the year will end on December 31. It has been an interesting year! The baby went to college in August. I was so excited at his graduation that I realized I had literally stopped breathing when he came across the stage. The oldest is getting ready to graduate from college in a year, and this has been a tough year for her. But she has matured and grown throughout the year, and that is a blessing! My DH is working a new position, but it is at night, and that has brought special challenges. With everyone gone at night, this house is creaky! But working a full-time job and running a business can keep anyone busy, and business is picking up. The flexibility of being an independent (love that word!) Avon representative has meant that the more I worked at it, the better it has become.

I'm looking forward to meeting my customer's Christmas needs - we have dozens of low cost gift items, some of them unique, that you can use to fill those stockings and stuff a box. There is a recession on, folks! Don't spend $50 on a watch that we have on sale for $20! Don't spend $500 on diamonds that we have (yes really!) for $159.

Load up on bubble bath for the kids and unique toys. See the kids section of the website for quick gift ideas. Get the doll collector on your list the Limited Edition Barbie for $50. Check the 'Net; others go for over $200.

Don't tell my mom (she won't read this), but she's getting our new Organizational Bag (617-202). She likes crocodile print and she needs to have her bag organized! Of course, I'm getting one for me too. For more fashion ideas, click "Shop" and look under Fashion or mark!

Plenty of leave time but no money for a quick couple's getaway? Get some dark chocolate, the ingredients for two of your favorite meals, and an appropriate beverage. Add Silver (148-195) and Gold (147-988) Bubble Bath, the Skin So Soft Soft and Sensual Gelled Body Oil (578-170), and send the kids and the dog to the grandparents for the weekend!

However you celebrate the end of the year, please know that I pray the best for you, your family and those who touch your life. Look forward! The New Year is coming! IT WILL BE GREAT!!!
